Looking at the cookies it seems that now I've logged in manually once it has set one to keep the site scheme preference and I can use LJLogin without it switching back. That works just fine for me, as I'd rather not stay logged in all the time anyway. If it turns out to only work temporarily I'll go to support and mention something to the LJLogin creator as well.
