Bumblethwacker is real, though I have no idea what it tastes like. Broken Nose is made up, by me and probably by Aberforth as well. Wizard's Finger is a magical counterpart to Bishop's Finger, when it's not busy being innuendo.

So I won't lie, I might have uttered a bit of a MEEP! when I saw my recipient. Knowing that delphi is a lovely person who would appreciate the effort no matter what is the only reason I dared tackle any of the pairings on her list, but I did, and in the end I had huge fun with this one.

This story was so utterly wonderful in every possible way that I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved it. I was so impressed that I forgot to comment (although I recced it on my journal a few weeks back) -- because wow. Your Aberforth and Severus are both a delight. There is such wit in the story, but it suits the gruff, awkward, lonely pair of them and is never too high-brow or reminiscent of Albus. Speaking of whom, your Albus-in-absence was perhaps even more frightening than he normally is when present: a great feat of suggestive prose. My hair stood on end whenever he was obliquely mentioned, and it was good and cheering and heartwarming to see that Severus and Aberforth managed to turn an assignment into something of their own, to manipulate him in a way for once. Really excellent work!

Thank you very much! I knew I wanted it to have a bit of hoary old man humour in there, along with some of the down-to-earth phrasing and presence of this type of character that I love in delphi's work. As you say, high-brow or too close a copy of Albus -- who I adore writing -- just wouldn't work for Aberforth. And they deserved a happy ending after such a long wait ;-)
