So, I feel like such an idiot. Not only did I not spot that [personal profile] delphi / [profile] atdelphi had written my amazing gift, but I was cursing only this morning that I didn't seem to have read her fic yet. In my defence, it is very different from her usual style, but I still feel like I should have guessed it. Clearly I need some sort of advanced stalker lessons since I must be slipping. Anyway, if you didn't read it before, obviously you will be doing now, yes? Good.

I will add names to my recs in a moment, and nice to see a lot of the usual suspects in there (and some that have been absent for a while!), along with some that are newer to me. I've still got lots to read there, but will be reading everything. I can't resist those rare pairs, it's just that every time I sit down right now, I fall asleep. Puppies are tiring *g*

I wrote The Chelmsford List, which is Stan Shunpike/Mundungus Fletcher. I'm still shocked everyone didn't run away screaming from those accents, so thank you all <3

And I can now use my Stan icon again (on LJ anyway) without feeling too obvious. Yay!

I'm sure everyone has seen the news about [personal profile] leni_jess, and I feel like I should say something here and not just on the Reversathon comm, but all I can think of is that I'm glad I made her a birthday cake. Is that a strange thing to think? She was full of a horrible cold, and stuck in some hostel in Manchester on the day itself, so I thought it would be a nice welcome for her when she arrived the next day. We nibbled lemon cake all week, drank ridiculous amounts of diet coke, and generally had a lovely time. That was just four weeks ago. I can't believe she's gone :(

I did a quick beta on her [community profile] hp_beholder fic while she was here too, which I'm assuming is going to be her last posted story. The Masterlist is up with reveals now, and the fest is (appropriately) dedicated to her now, so do check out The River Horse (Snape/Amelia Bones). Cutest patronus animal ever.

More Beholder stuff later, but this seemed to need its own post.
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
Desperately trying to get the rest of my [community profile] hp_beholder recs in before the reveal, and I still haven't finished reading them all *sigh*

The Two Names of Xiomara Rolanda Hooch (McGonagall/Hooch, PG-13) by [personal profile] pauraque is just beautiful. I have a fascination with names (I've lost count of the times I've had characters go by different names in stories. It's definitely a thing with me, god knows why) and this pokes at the mystery of Hooch's name and other questions of identity. Love it.

Smiles of a Summer Night (Moody/McGonagall, R) by [profile] kellychambliss is one that has really stayed with me since reading it. I tend to favour fics that are heavier on dialogue than this as a general rule, but it kept my interest until we got there, and the Moody and Minerva interaction is well worth the wait. This is a marvellous glimpse at a real (if interrupted) relationship rather than one of those mystifying things involving perfect bodies and some sort of standard progression which make less and less sense to me, to be truthful. Wonderfully believable, and best of all, you can genuinely feel the attraction here...but that's why we love this fest, right?

A Fire in the Deep (Grey Lady/Bloody Baron, PG-13), by [personal profile] chantefable. And right after I mention my thing for dialogue, we have one with none at all. I didn't even notice. Completely entrancing.

A Magical Moment in the Life of Petunia Dursley, Née Evans (Petunia/Snape, Petunia/Vernon, Petunia/Lily (of sorts), R) by [personal profile] pale_moonlite is wonderful, revolving around one perfect moment where Petunia had real power to hold over someone. I'm getting quite shockingly fond of Petunia lately. Hmm.

Safe in Your Arms (Art, Snape/McGonagall, PG-13) by [personal profile] shadowycat. Doesn't really need any explanation. This is beautiful.

ETA: I have to take a break, but I hope I will manage a few more recs before the reveal. I'll keep adding to this post for now. Since there are quite a few I haven't had chance to comment on yet though, feel free to take a wild stab in the dark about which entry is mine :D It's a pairing I've never written before, though I've written one of the characters in the past in a different pairing. Everything else is, um. Very me. And if you haven't read it yet, you NEED to read the gift for me, Eyes Open. No excuses, it has Snape. And Moody. And it appeals to the long ago drama geek in me among many, many other things. READ IT NOW. The author [profile] atdelphi / [personal profile] delphi deserves ridiculous amounts of praise.

Whee, we have 36 fabulous [community profile] reversathon sign-ups, assuming the one placeholder sign-up comes in before I post the ads. As I posted on the comm, if you're running late you can squeeze in until those go up in a few hours, but no guarantees unless you get a move on.

We have just about everything on offer from our sign-ups, from Grindelwald to Cho, and Minerva/Charity (yay for rare pairings!) to Bellatrix/Voldemort to Snape/everyone, along with plenty of Harry's gen, next gen and cross-gen pairings. I can't wait to see the requests come in :-)

ETA: Actually, I'm wrong, the most fun bit is doing the silly names :D Ahaha, they're all randomly assigned so don't blame me if you end up being Ophelia Crutch. (That one courtesy of my friend Paul, like so many others *g*)
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
I'm not going to do the AO3 meme thing properly because yawn, other people's writing is way more interesting and I have more Beholder fics and a realllly long Sherlock fic clamouring to be read (yum) plus lots of recs to write up. But I looked quickly out of idle curiosity and the most hits for my fics go something like 1st place - HP incesty threesome porn, 2nd-5th place kinky porn of various types in big fandoms and 6th place ... completely smut-free Lewis/Hawthaway fic.

Lewis fandom is beyond awesome, and also fabulous at leaving kudos/comments/feedback in general. Not saying this to have a go at any other fandom, more like trying to encourage those tempted but not sure yet to dip a toe in the Lewis waters.

That sounds wrong, somehow. *scratches head*

On another note, it's ridiculous fun seeing familiar names and new ones sign up for the Reversathon. Whee!
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
Sign-ups for the Harry Potter [community profile] reversathon are open! You can sign up on LJ, IJ or DW as you prefer.

Sign-up posts on Livejournal, Insanejournal and Dreamwidth.

Posts with more info about the fest in general on Livejournal, Insanejournal and Dreamwidth.

Wizarding names are still in, but don't worry, you won't have to create journals on three different sites in order to post your entries -- we'll be doing mod posting this time around instead since we're cross-posting.

Do remember we'll be going by UK time for cut-off times, so although we'll post reminders and provide links with the converted times, if you're in a different time zone it's probably a good idea not to leave it until the last minute!

Monday 7th May – Sign-ups close.
Tuesday 8th May – Author/artist ads posted.
Friday 11th May - All requests must be received by this date.
Monday 14th May – Assignments will be sent out by this date at the latest.
Monday 16th July - Submissions are due.
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
Ahaha, a Downton Abbey/White Collar crossover couldn't possibly work, could it? Yeah, I think it could! It's short, but so worth a read. Neal Caffrey/Thomas Barrow. I <3 Thomas, though that seems to be an unpopular opinion. Whatever you think of him, there should be more of this. Much, much more.

I forgot to actually say that Lottie is definitely having puppies. They are due around the 18th May, so I'm scheduling [community profile] reversathon assignments to be out a few days before that, and hopefully things will be settled down by the time we open [community profile] mcshep_match for the summer. So that we don't spend weeks and weeks posting entries we're scheduling both sets of posting for the same dates, so [community profile] reversathon will have a longer writing period than originally planned. I know this will probably make no difference at all to people hitting the deadline, but we live in hope :D
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (llama)
As you might have seen if you're a member of one of the communities ([community profile] reversathon now on DW as well as LJ and IJ) the Reversathon will be starting very soon - sign-ups will be opening on Tuesday May 1st. More details then, but now might be a good time to go and watch whichever community you prefer so you don't miss anything :-)
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
Okay, so recs from [community profile] hp_beholder as promised. I think I've missed some even from the ones I've read and commented on so far, and I have lots still to read and look at, but five isn't a bad start for now.

Eyes Open. Fic, Moody/Snape, NC-17. By [profile] atdelphi / [personal profile] delphi. Yes, I already linked to this, but I am determined that everyone who could possibly have an interest should read it. My gift (mine! But I can share) and I'm completely in love with it. Interrogation scenarios fascinate me, and I'd happily sell my soul to see this Snape get under Moody's skin forever, or even just try. I can't even list all the things I like about it, but I do love how the balance of power shifts through the story, and the wonderful writing – the author has a talent for the subtly chilling. Gah, I wish I could write like this.

The Language of Birds. Art (plus text), Marcus/Ginny, NC-17, by [personal profile] didodikali
Such a clever idea, and beautifully executed.

Irma's Library. Fic, Irma Pince/lots of people, PG-13. by [profile] miramiraficfic. The story of Irma's week of assignations from Slughorn's silver tongue to the mysterious Snape and the guilty pleasures of Rosmerta is utterly charming. I'm not sure, but I think Flitwick might steal the show in the end. Wonderful.

As You Say. Fic, Petunia/Snape, PG-13/R. By [personal profile] lash_larue. I wasn't sure I was going to make it through 16k words of this pairing, but it didn't take long for me to get hooked. I'm a complete sucker for a structure, so that appealed outright, but what really grabbed me about it in the end was the undoubted common ground between the characters and the convincing thawing out of Petunia's attitude towards magic, while not losing any of the Petunia we see in the books. Great stuff.

Smudge. Fic, Dean Thomas/Millicent Bulstrode, R. By [personal profile] kinky_kneazle. Really not a pairing I expected to read or enjoy, but that's normal for this fest, of course! Beautifully written, and a fascinating look at a relationship through an artist's eyes.

ETA: Round up posts so far here and here if you want to peruse the rest of the postings but don't know where to start. Sigh, I love this fest SO MUCH.

Mmm, cake.

I'm not completely up to date with my HP Beholder reading, but I have some recs so far to post later. First I'm going to finish the cake I'm making as a sort of birthday cake for [personal profile] leni_jess, who should be with us in a couple of hours!

It will be on my recs list as well, because it's MAGNIFICENT, but everyone should go and read my gift fic Eyes Open (Snape/Moody) now instead of waiting! I can't even count the things I love about it, it's just that good.

I'm not going to say whether my HP Beholder entry has been posted yet, but I will say it's ridiculously obvious. *sigh*
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
Did a massive, massive update (24 fics, I think?) to my website, adding some long-neglected stuff as well as the SPN kink meme stuff I said I'd claim. (Not that I think anyone will object, but you never know with *cough*certain fandoms*cough* -- read the warnings and if you have a problem with any of it, don't read it.) There's also a bit of Lewis, HP and god knows what else. Oh, the Midsomer Murders one I did as a Yuletide treat. Um, no, can't think what else. My brain is tired. Newly added stuff here, main page here.

If you're on my flist and I don't have your masterlist/website/designated archive page linked, PLEASE drop me a comment so I can add it to the page here. How am I supposed to actually complete my recs page some time (eventually!) if you all hide your fics, hmm? Even if you don't think I'm interested in your main fandoms, leave me a link. If you know me, you know it doesn't imply any obligation to do something similar. I'd just like to include them.
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
Or at least why she doesn't deserve some of the reactions I've seen.

[personal profile] trobadora has started an interesting discussion about Sally Donovan here, and this was supposed to be a reply to a comment there but sort of got away from me.

A few things first: I'm going to make some assumptions based on what we've seen of Sally, so do shout up if you think they're unreasonable. I'm not an expert on careers in the police, though I do have a good friend in the Met and an uncle who is retired from the police. As a middle class white man (and admittedly as a really nice friendly one) my friend in the Met very likely had an easier time getting to his current (similar) position than Sally, though she's a bit younger than him so it may not be directly comparable. We can assume she's at least of average intelligence and probably a bit better than that.

So that said, let's look at Sally Donovan for a minute. )

Stuff I keep meaning to post about and forgetting: Poll here about a meta fest - go and take it, even if you just want to read it rather than participate by writing!
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
I was going to put this behind separate cuts, but since the cut text would be spoilery I gave up on that. I imagine people are more concerned about spoilers with this ep, at least about certain things.

I have lots of questions as well, like 'how much does Mycroft know?' and observations like 'just how cool was John Having Words with Mycroft?' More urgently, I have the need to wallow in another 50 rewatches of this episode interspersed with every fic in the world that shows me What Happens Next. Seriously, there cannot be enough fic. GIMME NOW. And although I want massive, massive amounts of How ******** Gets Back to **** and There is Lots of Shouting Followed by Enthusiastic Sex fic (*'s there to make it hopefully non-spoilery enough on the important parts), I want everything else too. I want to know what happens to everyone.

Randomly, I also like it when you can see a writer's odd little favourite devices / plot whatevers showing up. Clearly this one likes his graffiti and messages, and I liked them here too.

Please excuse me if these thoughts are a bit jumbled – if you saw my notes you'd realise this is a big improvement. Most of it is probably blindingly obvious, but as long as it vaguely makes sense I'm happy ;-)

The Reichenbach Fall, and the series as a whole. Pretty much continues from my 2.01 post. (Link under the cut if needed.) )
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
Martin Freeman being ridiculously cute, and talking about Sherlock and John's love story (briefly).

The One Show including an extra clip from Reichenbach I've not seen before. (Starts about 28 mins in.) It's probably on YouTube as well by now if the region is a problem. ETA: Yep. *is still not doing other stuff* lala.

Title: Bumblethwacker, Broken Nose and the Wizard's Finger
Pairing/Characters: Severus Snape/Aberforth Dumbledore, with considerable off-screen input from Albus Dumbledore
Rating: Adult
Content info: dirty talk, references to voyeurism, improper use and abuse of beer, object insertion, blink-and-you'll-miss-it spanking
Summary: A romance (of sorts) featuring three ales, two lonely men, and one interfering big brother.
Word count 4414
Author Notes: Written for [personal profile] delphi for [community profile] snapelyholidays. Huge thanks to [profile] asphodeline for the beta!
Bumblethwacker is real, though I have no idea what it tastes like. Broken Nose is made up, by me and probably by Aberforth as well. Wizard's Finger is a magical counterpart to Bishop's Finger, when it's not busy being innuendo.

So I won't lie, I might have uttered a bit of a MEEP! when I saw my recipient. Knowing that [personal profile] delphi is a lovely person who would appreciate the effort no matter what is the only reason I dared tackle any of the pairings on her list, but I did, and in the end I had huge fun with this one.

Bumblethwacker, Broken Nose and the Wizard's Finger

Also on AO3.

Title: A Midnight Not So Clear

Warnings: Non-con, pegging, femdom, forced exhibitionism, some magical bondage/control/punishment including breathplay, coercion and manipulation all over the place.
Author's notes: Written for [community profile] smutty_claus for [profile] ginny___weasley.

First, a question about the end of Hounds )

Second, I saw either on friendsfriends or the members list of one of the comms (because I have been trawling both like a sad, sad addict) someone describe Sherlock as order and Moriarty as chaos. I dunno, I can see where they're coming from, but I can't see Sherlock in himself as order.

For me... )
fluffyllama: a fluffyllama drawing on green and blue (Default)
The Masterlist for the fest is here, and I wrote Just Friends for [personal profile] berevette, a little bit of Lewis/Hathaway.

The final edit was completed with a headache and a truly exceptional lack of brain, and I missed an apostrophe, which given something in the story is especially annoying *g* My netbook is really awkward for apostrophes as it has such small keys, and the position means I end up with a bunch of random letters and a couple of line breaks every time I use one, so I'm forced to leave them out and I missed adding it before sending. Typical.

Thank you once more to [personal profile] maekala for my gift fic!

I've added names to my [community profile] lewis_challenge (here, here, here and here) and [community profile] merlin_holidays (here) rec posts now.

I still have loads from the Merlin fest to read, but I ran out of time before the reveals. Recs will be added when I catch up!
